One lucky dog and new mom

Foxy
Hi! I'm Foxy. I bet you all remember me; I am the yorkie wannabe. I was rescued from death row at Miami Animal Control. My back leg was so severely broken and healed terribly that I had to have it amputated. I was so happy when UYR let me move into their foster home. I had fun there. But I am so happy to have my forever mommy and daddy. My mommy tells me every day that I am her world; she loves me more than anything. I sleep on her pillow next to her face at night. On the weekends and evenings, she takes me around to restaurants that allow doggies and to dog parks. I really have fun with her. Sometimes I just sit on her lap while she sits by the intercoastal and reads to me. I'm really thankful to UYR for getting me and my new mommy together. We couldn't be any happier. Thank you Thank you!

Henry's Story
The day started as any other for Henry's foster mom. She opened her e-mail to find a picture of a small matted dog listed as a Maltese in really bad shape located at an area shelter. He was brought there as a stray with a frayed rope tied around his neck, sores all over his body, a broken leg, and hardly any hair. She went to the shelter to find the dog from the e-mail. She knew she had to help him.
She saw that he was young - not even two years of age. She also recognized the familiar silver hair and knew this was no Maltese. This was a Yorkie! The shelter did not think he was even going to survive but they knew if he had a chance, UYR would make it happen.
Henry's FM took him home on March 5th, and off he went to the vet for a check up. He needed a neuter and a dental... but first they needed to tackle his non contagious Demodectic mange, an eye infection, corneal injury, ear infection, urine crystals, ring worm that took over his fragile weakened body, and a badly broken front leg. He would surely have been euthanized at the shelter! Henry received the treatments that he needed and his front leg had to be amputated.
I have supported many rescue dogs over the years with financial donations or a care package being sent in the mail. I have three rescue dogs - a beagle and two Yorkies. One of my Yorkies survived Hurricane Katrina and the other was a puppy mill survivor having spent her entire 5 years in a puppy mill she came to me with about six or so teeth left and her back leg amputated.
I was looking for a Yorkie to support and came across Henry's picture and his story. It was love at first sight for me. I sent Henry a care package and made a donation to help with his medical costs. I was not the only one who wanted to help Henry he had supporters from across the county and he raised over $4000 in funds to help with his medical costs as well as other Yorkies in foster homes with United Yorkie Rescue. He also received other care packages in the mail. I could not stop thinking about him, and that was the start of many e-mails back and forth to his Foster Mom Jenn asking how he was doing and looking for updates about his health. She sent me a link to the pictures of Henry that documented his journey and his road to recovery and healing. The pictures brought tears to my eyes and I sat at my computer sobbing.
I decided that Henry was the one for me after all! I submitted the application to adopt and waited to hear back from Jenn. I must say I bugged Jenn quite a bit as I waited to hear back. Jenn contacted shelters and rescue organizations in Maine in hopes that someone would do a home visit of behalf of United Yorkie Rescue. Finally, an organization stepped forward to do the home visit and Jenn called me with the great news that I was Henry's new Mom I was so happy! The next step was how was I going to get Henry? Jenn called with great news again stating that she had a family event to attend in Massachusetts and Henry would hitch a ride up with her to Maine. I picked Henry up in Dartmouth, Ma on July 10th and again it was love at first sight.
Henry did great on the car ride back to Maine sitting in my lap all the way home. He was a bit nervous the first few days I had him home he did not want to eat or drink. He followed me from room to room keeping a close eye on me. Henry continues to follow me around from room to room he is my constant companion he goes to work with me cuddles up next to me weather it is on the couch or chair. He also gets to come to work with me quite often, and everybody loves him. He is much loved and has many toys, and sweaters for the cold Maine weather that will be arriving soon.
It is said that adopters change the lives of dogs or is it the other way around that the dogs changes our lives. What I can tell you for sure is that Henry has changed my life. Henry was definitely the underdog and needed support, love and people in his corner to love and care for him.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to Jenn with United Yorkie Rescue for taking such heartfelt care of Henry and opening your home to this wonderful dog who needed a true angel to look after him. You have touched the lives of so many, many dogs in such an amazing way you are an amazing wonderful person who I am honored to call my friend.
I would also like to express thanks to the vet and vet techs that took care of Henry and for Miami Dade Rescue for taking Henry in. I would also like to thank the many, may donors that made a financial contribution to help Henry and United Yorkie Rescue and the donors for sending Henry much needed love.
Sincerely,
Amy L. Cooper

Derby
When I got my first puppy Tazer back in December I remember the excitement that she had when I brought her home for the first time and how happy she made me and my girlfriend. Everyday she's a bundle of joy to be with. But then I realized, she needed a friend to grow up with. But this time I wanted to adopt a puppy. A puppy I could give a second chance to and a loving home. That's when I found UYR. The first day I looked on the website I put in my application for a puppy but i was too late, she was adopted. The very next day Derby appeared on the website and I knew he would be perfect for our family. I put in the application and was a bit of a pain to UYR (sorry Jenn) and I was given a chance. On Derby's first visit, Tazer and him hit it off and I knew this little guy was going to be perfect. Derby was so happy when he saw all the toys and Tazer. Ever since then they have been inseparable and they bring a smile to everyones faces every day. I'm happy I could give Derby his second chance on being loved and giving him his FURever home..forever. Thank you to everyone at UYR for making all this possible and for helping me to get one step closer to completing my family.
Thanks again,
Joe, Nikki, Tazer, & Derby

Rudy
WE WERE SO FORTUNATE TO HAVE FOUND OUR YORKIE, CHIPPY IN AUGUST 2007 FROM A LOCAL HUMANE SOCIETY. HE HAD 2 OWNERS AND A HARD LIFE AND IS NOW AROUND 12. HIS DIAGNOSIS OF CONGESTIVE HEART AND KIDNEY FAILURE REQUIRES EVEN MORE LOVE AND ATTENTION AND LOTS OF MEDS, BUT HE'S OUR HAPPY LITTLE BOY AND IS OUR FAMILY.
WHEN WE GOT A DIRE DIAGNOSIS IN APRIL 2010, I STARTED SEARCHING FOR AN ORGANIZATION THAT HAD YORKIES WHO NEEDED A HOME. THROUGH A MIRACLE FOR US, WE SAW RUDY'S PICTURE AND WRITEUP THAT HE WAS A TURN IN AND NEEDED A NEW FAMILY. I THINK HE HAD ONLY BEEN ON THE SITE A COUPLE OF DAYS SO I BELIEVE RUDY WAS MEANT TO BE PART OF OUR LITTLE FAMILY.
I PUT IN AN APPLICATION WITH THE UNITED YORKIE RESCUE AND THEY RESPONDED IMMEDIATELY. THEY WERE BEYOND PERSONABLE, BUT ALSO REQUIRED A HOME VISIT AND CONTACT OF 3 REFERENCES, WHICH I FOUND VERY COMFORTING. THAT'S BECAUSE I KNEW THEY WANTED TO FIND THE best FOR THEIR LITTLE GUYS AND GALS.
ON JUNE 3, 2010, RUDY BECAME PART OF OUR FAMILY AND WE HAVE HAD HIM 3 WEEKS NOW. HE IS JUST THE SWEETEST, SMARTEST, HAPPIEST LITTLE GUY AND WE FEEL LIKE WE HAVE ALWAYS FELT ABOUT CHIPPY---THAT WE'VE ALWAYS HAD RUDY!
HE KEEPS CHIPPY ACTIVE AND SOMETIMES HE LIES BESIDE CHIPPY BECAUSE I BELIEVE HE KNOWS HE'S SICK. HE ALSO LETS CHIPPY GO IN THE FRONT DOOR FIRST, I GUESS OUT OF RESPECT FOR HIS BIG BROTHER. HE LOVES TO PLAY, EATS WELL, SLEEPS WITH US AND IS GETTING READY TO GO ON HIS FIRST ROAD TRIP TO PENNSYLVANIA. HE'S BEAUTIFUL AND SUCH A HAPPY ADDITION TO OUR FAMILY.
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU UNITED YORKIE RESCUE FOR WHAT YOU DO AND YOUR ONGOING EFFORTS
BOB, PEG, CHIPPY AND RUDY WISHESNKI:)

 Stuart
 Stuart & fur friend
|
Stuart
I was on the website today to add a Happy Tail note about Stuart. Stuart was found roaming the streets of Milwaukee WI. Was then brought to IL and was found to have a broken leg and lived in Peoria with his foster family- The Castagna's.
We adopted him from them in Feb. He has been with us now for a couple of months and has adjusted well. He loves his older brother Alvin (bichon frise) and they play often. Stuart even likes to show his brother whos boss. Stuart still tends to return his roots and run away on occassion but we know he loves us because he never leaves the block and always returns home after a few minutes.
We had his hair cut for the first time since adopting him due to letting his casted leg hair catch up with the rest of him. The next haircut will finally be more of a yorkie puppy cut as all the hair will be the same again. He now has earned a nick name of "Chewy" beacuse he is still a puppy and loves to chew on everything and because when his hair grows out just before a haircut he looks like Chewbacka from Starwars. We are looking forward to many years ahead with Stuart and hopefully will send an update again in the future. Thanks so much for allowing us the opportunity to adopt Stuart. We love him dearly.
Love and Appreciation,
Rick, Kendra, Jacob, MacKenzie, Alvin, and Stuart Joyal

 Jessica and Suki
|
Suki
Suki was dumped at a local high kill shelter December 2009 as a tiny 8 week old puppy. Although more of a Yorkie-Wannabe, she was so small, cute and sweet, we could not resist her! She was a puppy that was a bit fearful upon meeting people, pets or things for the first time, but once she knew you, she warmed up and loved you. When she was 5 months old, she was adopted by a wonderful and patient lady named Jessica. Jessica writes: Suki is an active adorable puppy and she follows me and her brother Romeo around. She gets braver each day and loves to play with her mini tennis balls. We love her and are so happy to have her. Thanx!

 Shelby with niece and nephew

Shelby
Shelby here, Barely able to stand up when FM bailed me out of a high kill shelter, she knew I was worth saving. My new mommy & brother love me so much. I am spoiled to death. I have steps to get into bed when I want and my own carriage for when I get tired of walking.
I am so happy that I adopted Shelby. I knew she would be a challenge but that was ok by me. It took her 6 mos. to finally offer kisses all the time. She jumped at me if she wanted to eat or go out. Now her third jump is to be picked up and held. She is becoming very lovey dovey. When you reach down to pick her up, she tries to jump into your hands, but in the reverse of the normal dog. Most dogs would jump with the front paws, not Shelby, She springs and lifts her butt to get that end into your hands. So adorable. I bought steps for her to get in and out of the bed whenever she wanted. Now I wake up in the middle of the night and she is cuddled in my arms with her head under my chin. It took her 5 mos to reach this point. I am thrilled now. She still spins, but mostly when she is nervous or excited. I love to watch her fly across the back yard when I call her, running in a straight line. She is such a character and so independent. She loves playing with Cooper my Maltese. She owns the left side of me and gets put out if Cooper is on her side. She will jump up on top of him making him move over. She's a fighter when the vet wants to cut her nails. Watch out for those teeth. I found that "Rescue Remedy" helps a lot on these occasions. She's not as feisty with the techs. If she sees me with my purse she's ready at the door. She loves to go in the car or for a walk. All in all, I couldn't be happier with the girlie girl. I thank UYR for rescuing her. She was well worth rescuing. Her FM did a fabulous job with her. Hey Jenn, unwanted presents from Shelby are rare now, lol glad of that.

 Cheech / Ditka
|
Ditka
Cheech, formerly Ditka, has a happy new home. His new mom writes:
It's been a while so I thought I'd update you on Cheech. I've attached a picture of him with his favorite toy, a kangaroo.
My dog trainer, Doree Rawlings, has been fantastic and things have gotten progressively better. All three dogs are much calmer and happier. Cheech and Roo cannot be together yet, but they do sniff noses nicely through their crates so there's hope that one day they might be friends. Even if they can never be together, Doree has helped me developed a routine that works and will allow me to keep Cheech. He's a nervous boy, at times, but absolutely adorable.
The dogs are well exercised and feeling more safe and secure ... happy dogs, happy owner.
Thank you for the suggestion of getting a dog trainer. She has made world of difference.

Bo
Hi everyone!
My boyfriend Andrew and I just recently adopted Bo and just love him to death. He is the sweetest little dog that you would ever want to meet. Adopting Bo was the best thing that we could have ever done. We have wanted to adopt for awhile now but have worried how our other dog would handle it due to being the only dog and QUEEN of the house for 6 years. To be honest she was a little upset at first but now she is so happy to have a companion to run around with. He truly fits into our family so nicely and is such a wonderful addition.
Bo is absolutely loving his long walks and playing with his new sister. The other night we took the two of them to run some errands with us and Bo sat on Andrew's lap with his front legs on the steering wheel like he was driving. It was such a hilarious sight and a confirmation that he is feeling very comfortable with his new family.
The whole adoption process was wonderful and all the individuals we worked with (Mary, Jack and Rene) were amazing and so extremely helpful. I will highly recommend the United Yorkie Rescue to friends and family because it is a fantastic organization with an amazing purpose.

Ty
See this video of Ty making a bed."Ty Makes Dad's Bed"
Boo, our 6 year old yorkie poo, joined our family of 5 (two boys, two parents and one beagle) almost a year ago. Boo (formerly known as Ty) had been rescued from a shelter and had to undergo treatments for heartworm. His foster parents took great care of him and saw him through that terrible process until he was ready to join us.
Boo is the sweetest little guy! After a brief period of adjustment he filled a place in our home and all of our hearts. We love him so much, and he loves us too! He is always so happy and joyful to see us-even if we have only left the room for a couple of minutes! He loves everyone he meets. He is so playful and funny, a loving addition to our family. We are so happy we found him, he has added to our enjoyment of life. He is our Boo.

 Amahle and her new family
|
Amahle
AMAHLE went to her forever home today - Christmas Eve! She was delighted to finally have her very own mom & dad and also their pretty granddaughter Lisa who was visiting. Amahle has a big house to roam around in, and her parents will dote on her just as it should be for a little Princess. She may have had a difficult start in life, but she will never ever find herself homeless again. Her mommy Betzee is sad since now all 3 of the puppies she nursed have 'left the nest', but hopefully soon, Betzee will find her own forever home where she can be treated like a princess as well. Have a Happy life, Amahle - your Foster Mom Dianne and foster Dad Ray will never ever forget you!

Adonis
The daughter of Adonis new mom writes:
Just wanted to let you know that I have settled in very nicely thank you. I really love my new Mom. She even makes me oatmeal to go with my breakfast in the morning. I went to get my hair done for the holidays, and they said I was even cuter then the snowman kerchief they put on me. Then we went to visit Mom's daughter Linda and her big dog tried to get too close to my mom. I had to remind him who he was dealing with here. That is My Mommy!! And she talks to me all the time and is even telling all her friends about me.
She does have me sleeping in a doggy bed in her room, still working on breaking her down on that, but everyone say's "WE ARE A PERFECT MATCH". I couldn't agree more.
I wanted to thank everyone at United Yorkie Rescue for having a heart and taking me in and believing in me. I knew there was someone out there for me to love and would love me back forever.

 Kirby

Kirby
Here's an update from Kirby's FURever family:
"Just wanted to update you on Kirby. The first couple of days back here were interesting, as Kirby and Cami learned about each other (no violence, just a lot of sulking on Cami's part). They are now best friends and cuddle together! My dad came down for Christmas, and he and Kirby immediately fell in love with each other. And many of Katie's friends have dropped by to meet Kirby - we have literally had to pull him out of someone's arms as they were trying to walk out the door with him! He has adapted really well to the snow (which is finally just about all gone), and is wonderful about letting me know that he has to go out by circling at the back door. I will say, though, that it takes me about half an hour to get out of bed in the mornings, because he and Cami demand that they be adored, worshiped, and tummy rubbed before I am allowed to get out of bed for the day. It's hard to believe that two small dogs, totaling 12 pounds together, can make it impossible to get out of bed! Kirby just flies up and down the stairs and loves to see how fast he can go.
We think we are just about the luckiest three people on earth to have these two dogs be part of our lives!"
