HAPPY TAILS

At United Yorkie Rescue we are blessed with an extraordinary success rate in finding forever homes for our rescued foster dogs. To share this joy we've created this "Happy Tails" page. Happy Tails is devoted to the celebration of these wonderful stories with everyone who loves dogs. We hope that you enjoy these "Tails" as much as we have. Thank you!!

Thanks to everyone who asked about him while he was with me. Please keep looking on UYR website for other Yorkie rescues who will be in need of loving homes.

Charlie and Murphy with new family
Charlie (Murphy)

Charlie and Murphy are adjusting very well to living with us.

We have discovered that Charlie is a toy hoarder and keeps them picked up. He even takes Milky's toys and hides them with the rest. He says Good Morning to everybody in turn and loves our 7yo son, I think he thinks our son is another puppy to play with! Recently we all came down with a terrible cold. Charlie slept by the side of whomever was in bed with a fever that day.One quirk we adore is his snoring! Charlie is definitely not a morning dog and doesn't like to stay up late, he needs his 12 hours :)

Murphy has come a long way from the timid, nervous, mildly cranky doggie he was when we first got him. We all remember a particular Wednesday in November, he was a different friendlier dog that morning. He has started "talking" to me. He sleeps at my feet every night and follows me everywhere, and now he asks for snuggles and belly rubs. We discovered that he loves to be swaddled! Murphy has the ability to jump 4ft. in the air, he must have springs for hind legs!

Our older dog Milky has finally agreed that life isn't so bad with two more furries in the house. He was kind of nervous and afraid of them for awhile, but just a week ago we had all three snuggling with me on the sofa happily.

The children came up with a rotating schedule for feeding, walking, grooming, and letting them out for potty breaks. I feel this has helped Charlie and Murphy to really bond with everyone. I was in the house with the dogs and the children were outside shoveling and Oh MY! they cried and ran from window to window until all the children were back in the house.

We are so happy to be the family to adopt them!

Gizmo and pals
Gizmo

I just have to share these 2 pictures with you all!! The little Yorkie is my former foster boy Gizmo, now named Little Buddy. When I got him, he was so scared and unsocialized. A puppy mill discard at 8 years old and 3.5 pounds, he had probably never been out of his tiny little cage except to "do his job" and right back into the cage he went. He "circled" all the time, even when he tried to get across the room, he turned in circles to get there, the only way of moving around he had ever known in his little cage. And bark.......that little guy barked all the time. I was able to get the barking under control and he had started to walk a little more without circling when I got the application to adopt him. I called Penny and told her about him and told her that he really wasn't ready for adoption yet and I couldn't promise that he would ever be a "good family member" because he just wasn't socializing or even making up with any of my dogs. She talked about him with such love and made the comment "well, he has to live somewhere, why not with me?" I thought about that long and hard, so I went forward and checked her references. Her vet office told me "any dog that she adopts has hit the doggie lottery!!!" With that, I agreed to do a meet and greet as well as a home visit. Well, she and her husband were on the floor with him within minutes of us arriving at their home. They introduced him to their 2 dogs (rescued Westies) one at a time and he really had no interest in them. It was apparent, she was in love with Gizmo, so I agreed that they should adopt him. She emailed me a week or so later and sent a video ~~ Buddy(Gizmo) had bonded with Boone, one of the Westies and followed his lead on everything, eating, going out to potty, laying on the doggie bed, you name it Buddy did what Boone did. I'm not sure, but Buddy may be one of my happiest foster stories ever because of such a drastic change in his way of life. He went from "no life at all" to being a loved and loving family member. Thanks to Penny and her husband Wayne (and Boone and Winkie the Westies) Buddy is indeed a very lucky dog!! ♥

Karma and new mom and dad
Karma

Karma was adopted by a wonderful mom & dad who loved him just as he is. Karma arrived in UYR with a broken front wrist, which was surgically corrected; however, the corrective surgery failed because the bones were non-union, meaning that the bone ends were dead. It was decided that, in Karma's best interest, an amputation be done - the surgery was done on 09/06/2012 and Karma is now in his forever home ~ yeah! He will have an older dog to teach him the ropes and a younger dog to play with - Karma loves to run and play! Have a Happy Life Little Man - you will be missed by your Foster Mom & Dad very much, but you are going into your forever home with the love and blessings of many, many folks around the country who have followed your progress. Have a Happy Life Sweet Karma - we will all miss you!

Rudy and Butler
Butler

Update 08-27-13: This is Butler! It's been about a year since United Yorkie Rescue placed me in my Fur-Ever home in Destin, Florida.

I just want everyone to know that I am Happy & Healthy and hardly ever notice my liver shunt condition anymore. Mom's taking me for my check up soon and says the dogtor will think I'm Just Perfect. I've been getting small pieces of apple, carrot, cucumber & spinach as treats and mom says my eye's really sparkle now. I feel more energetic too! I can run Soooo Fast!!! Me and my two new brothers have become Best Buddy's! I'm especially attached to the tailless cat Romeo, but I like Rudy lots too. Well enough for now, I think I hear the leashes rattling!

Old Post: Butler is doing So Great! He settled in quickly getting to know Rudy & Romeo. They all sleep with me at night, Butler right by my side.

Rudy showed some jealousy for a few days by looking at me sideways or refusing to look at me at all, but he's fine now.

Last week when he got his stitches out at the vet Butler weighed 5lbs.13oz! I've been feeding him several small meals a day and discovered he likes eating from a fork or spoon. He eats more that way, I guess because of his missing teeth. I'm sure he's at least 6 lbs. by now. It's amazing the amount of energy he has sometimes. He can bound across the back yard in about 5 leaps, just like a little deer! When I come home he is so Happy to see me, he's actually jumped up into my arms a couple of times! Just know that I'm am Delighted with this little guy. He is such a Love!

I've attached a photo of Rudy & Butler. I've been trying to get one of all three, but so far Romeo won't sit still long enough.

Milo
Milo

Adopting Milo from has been such a positive enhancement for our family (we have two young girls, ages 4 and 6, a Miniature Schnauzer, and another Yorkie). Initially, we had to get to know him and his spunky personality, and he had to learn our ways as well. Within a couple weeks of adjustments, on both ends, we have blended beautifully into a three dog family. Since we have adopted him, Milo loves going camping with us, nature walks, going to visit Grandma and Grandpa's house, and spending time at our cottage. We can't imagine it any other way. Wendy Klinke gave our family this opportunity, and we greatly appreciate what she did for us. Thank you!
